Forbes magazine ranks him as one of the most powerful celebrity in the world in 2006. [1] He was nominated for three Academy Awards and won three Golden Globe Awards. His first major success was in the 1983 film, Risky Business [2], which has been described as "A Generation-X classic, and building a career for the actor. [3] After playing the role of a naval officer and fighter pilot in the popular 1986 film, Top Gun, Cruise starred in another action role, playing a secret agent in a series of action movie Mission: Impossible (1996, 2000, 2006, 2011). In addition to these roles as a hero, he has performed roles with facets of other much more complex as the doctor William in Eyes Wide Shut (1999), the misogyny guru in Magnolia (1999) and the casual, sociopathic killer in thriller by Michael Mann, Collateral (2004).
Economist Edward Jay Epstein argues that Cruise is one of the few producers (the others being George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer) who have been able to ensure the success of a billion dollars. Since 2005, Cruise and Paula Wagner have been appointed in charge of United Artists Studio: Cruise as producer and Wagner as chief executive. [4] Cruise is also known for his membership and his support of Scientology. His high public criticism against psychiatry and the use of anti-depressant drugs have aroused controversy and interest from the media.
[Edit] Early anniCruise was born in Syracuse, New York, [5] the son of Mary Lee, a physical education teacher, Thomas Cruise Mapother III and, an electrical engineer. [6] Cruise has German and English origin, derived from his paternal great-grandparents, William and Charlotte Louise Voelker Reibert, and, presumably, a derivation from Wales by his paternal great-grandfather, Dylan Henry Mapother, who emigrated from Flint, Wales to Louisville, Kentucky in 1850. [7] [ 8] Her older sister, Lee Anne, was born in Louisville. His younger sister, however, was born in Syracuse the same as Tom and the other younger sister, Cass [9].
Cruise attended the public schools "Robert Hopkins" for grades 3, 4 and 5 and Middle School Henry Munro "for Grade 6, Gloucester, now Ottawa, Ontario. [10] The family lived in the suburb of Gloucester Beacon Hill, the father became a consultant for the Defense of the Canadian armed forces. While he trained to participate in a local competition of wrestling, he decided to lose weight in order to fall into the categories laid down by race, running up and down the stairs. One slip caused the injury of a tendon and Tom became interested in other activities. He decided to try to participate in a school production of Guys and Dolls. Tom showed himself to the role of Nathan Detroit and on that occasion brought out the talent that was later the key to its success.

In 2007 he made Lions for Lambs with Meryl Streep, directed by and starring Robert Redford, and July 19 there was the first shooting of the film Valkyrie, directed by Bryan Singer, beset by some controversy as to its interpretation of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg who plots to kill Hitler. Tropic Thunder comes out in 2008, with a cameo from Cruise who plays the part of a memorable film producer Les Grossman. Recently, the American actor has acquired the rights to bring the near future on the big screen adaptation of the Rolling hills of blood book, written by journalist Mario Spezi and Douglas Preston crime writer [13]. The story recounts the chronicle of killings in and around Florence between 1968 and 1985 by the infamous fellow snacks Mercatale, Pietro Pacciani, Mario Vanni and Giancarlo Lotti.
